Title:
Community Health Workers of Rural Malawi
Location:
Malawi
Community Health Workers (CHWs) are placed among their neighbors in rural Malawi, delivering invaluable health interventions while becoming important role models for the community. CHWs are proud of the work that they do in delivering healthcare to the people the people with who they grew-up and with who they are raising their own children.
It is not uncommon to hear superstitious tales of mysterious images in rural Malawi. Some spirits are said to bring harm to a village, but the pale blue visions that wander the countryside are very real and inspire only hope for entire communities. These are the blue-jacketed Community Health Workers (CHWs) who commit their lives to bringing healthcare to their rural communities. The CHWs are critical to all aspects of life for hundreds of thousands of Malawians. CHWs bring life-saving interventions to people in need, mitigate disease through preventative counseling, provide invaluable advice to expectant mothers, and take on the role of mentors to the young people who admire their light blue coats.
