Destroyed Cathedral in Yei. The city is close to the Uganda & D.R. Congo borders and was a main base for the SPLA troops during the 2nd civil warin Sudan.

South Sudan: Year Zero

In 2011, South Sudan seceded from Sudan and became an independent country, a significant step towards a more peaceful future. South Sudan is one of the world's weakest and most underdeveloped countries. It has the highest maternal mortality and female illiteracy rates in the world.

South Sudan has suffered the longest-running civil war in Africa. It is highly diverse ethnically and linguistically. Among the largest ethnic groups are the Dinka, Nuer and Shilluk. The South Sudanese follow traditional religions, while a minority are Christians.

Alfonso Moral (1977, Valladolid, Spain) I started working as a staff photographer for the Spanish newspaper El Norte de Castilla. I didn’t feel that was my place and I moved to Syria and began focusing on the Middle East countries like Lebanon, Palestine, Syria or Iraq. Also I’ve been working in central Asia, especially in Afghanistan and Bangladesh and Africa ( Mozambique, Senegal, Kenya, South Sudan, Libia, etc) where I did some multimedia and video pieces as well as still photography. I’m Co-Founder of the Spanish photo documentary collective Pandora working in longterm photographic projects.
