Burs violence survivors, unfortunately are increasing in Nepal. The context is a bleak outlook. Domestic violence can ends in dramatic results: killing people or making them suffer for lifetime. Women are the ones most affected by this issue.
Suicide is the leading cause of death among woman of reproductive age in Nepal. Hospitals refuse to attend victims with more than 30 or 40% of burn injuries. BIR and Kanti Children’s Hospitals are an exception. These are the only law costs hospitals that receive burned people, most of them coming from very poor areas. There are not rural hospitals or ambulances to transport patients. Many of the patients traveled by bus long distances to reach the hospitals in Kathmandu. Many of them were travelling with more than 40 or 60% of burn injuries in their bodies.
This could not have been done without the help of the NGO BVS Nepal. The organization is providing medical treatment, counseling, physiotherapy, nutritional support to burnt patients and recreational activities for the burnt children who came from the poorest areas in Nepal.
