Ground Zero: Then and Now
This past spring I started documenting the area around Ground Zero in lower Manhattan to see how much has changed singe the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001. Using my historic photographs of that morning I have take new images and placed them together from the same geographical location creating a diptych with the old and new versions of the urban landscape around Ground Zero.
I wanted to see the progress from a smoldering city to a
construction zone that has also become a tourist attraction added to the constant flow of a big labor force in the area. I plan on continuing to document this area using my historical photos alongside with pictures of the ever changing new landscape. With a portfolio of nearly 50 images from 9/11/2001 adding to this body of work throughout the summer leading to the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

This project has been challenging since many of the locations where I took these historic photos are not accessible because of logistics of construction, security or just physical limitations of not being able to stand in the area where I originally documented on 9/11. This project will continue up to the 10 year anniversary several months away.
