I spent time visiting family homes around Kampala with Ambassadors of Hope, a non profit organization that seeks out families with many children in need of help. Often these families have gone days without food, and the younger children aren't able to go to school so that the older children can finish their studies. Older ladies often take in all the abandoned children in the neighbourhood because they've been neglected or orphaned but they themselves are struggling with poverty and disease. It's a hard life...they live in much pain but still they find reasons to smile.
