The Li Shui project is initially inspired by a family member’s residence outside of Guangzhou, China. It is the photographic documentation and exploration of a relatively unchartered territory in modern-day China. In this collection, Ms. Wang captures a space 25 minutes from the frenetic urban center of Guangzhou that is sparsely inhabited and leaves the viewer with a glimpse of abandoned provincial China. Throughout this series a sense of removal and abandonment purveys a space that is both parts a suburban oasis and a forgotten milieu.
