Africa, Kenya - The Path to Tabitha medical clinic in Kibera. The clinic gets its supply of ART's from Kenya Pharma. When it rains, the road becomes impassable thereby hampering delivery of ARV's to the clinic.
In Kenya, there is a high prevalence of HIV/AIDS especially in slums and remote areas. Due to myths and fallacies that frown upon use of protective measures such as condoms as well as lack of access to them, the virus spreads rapidly in these communities. As a result, many people in these communities succumb to the scourge. USAID|KenyaPharma is an NGO that supplies free Anti Retro-Viral drugs to individuals in these communities. . From the treacherous roads of Samburu that have vicious bandits and cattle rustlers to the narrow slum pathways of Kibera that overflow with raw sewer and mud when it rains, USAID|KenyaPharma delivers the drugs despite the odds. The trained staff equips the health workers and pharmacists with not only the necessary drugs but with best practices as well thereby empowering them to take care of the patients.
