Podhale is a part of Poland lying at the foot of the Tatra mountains. It is a region of  strong folk traditions, proud people and outstanding natural beauty. Podhale and its people have been for decades an inspiration for painters, writers and philosophers. People from all over Poland and Europe have been coming there to experience the atmosphere of the place and to meet the people of Podhale who were living their simple lives in harmony with nature. Herding, farming, crafts, music and religion have always been the integral parts of their existence.

Today Podhale is threatened by mass tourism. For many people it has become the place to go because of its commercial tourist attractions. More and more people use the place and have no interest in its history and traditions and have little respect for nature.

I have visited Podhale a few times and noticed the terrifying speed of its development. I decided to document what is special about this place. I photographed the little signs of its rich culture - the signs of its soul.
