6Am...a street sweeper in Odessa, the 3rd largest city in The Ukraine.
The city of Odessa was founded by a decree of the Empress Catherine the Great in 1794. From 1819 to 1858 Odessa was a free port. During the Soviet period it was the most important port of trade in the Soviet Union and a Soviet naval base. On 1 January 2000 the Quarantine Pier of Odessa trade sea port was declared a free port and free economic zone for a term of 25 years.
The city of Odessa is located on the Black Sea in The Ukraine. It is the biggest port in the area and is home to many Chechen immigrants who continue to arrive here after 15years of war in Chechnya. Many come to work enough then move on.
I walked around the port on a quiet Sunday morning thru the old town thru into the empty industrial area by the markets. The immigrants set up their stalls and spend the morning hustling the passers by..offering morsels of dried fish and freshly processed meat sausages. As the sun gets higher, the beaches begin to fill and the markets pack up till another day..

A wonderful but slightly edgy city to shoot in..the mist on the shore of the Black Sea softens the light till the mid morning hours...but be discreet as the locals are aggressively against a camera being pointed in thier direction.. unless one specifically asks!
