Passage to Moksha

Jit Rakshit | India

Introduction - Manikarnika Ghat is one of the ghats in Varanasi and is most known for being a place of Hindu cremation where according to the legends, a person can attain 'Moksha' after the cremation.

According to Hindu mythology, death is not the end of life, it's actually a series of changes that a soul passes through. The consciousness, also known as Soul is a non-ending flow, which is embodied in Manikarnika Ghat. It is said that, Manikarnika's fire never extinguishes like the Hindu legend of Soul passing through different stages but never-ending in nature. For me, an ideal photo-story on Manikarnika, should also capture the same, instead of the harsh realities associated with death.
