Mill Towns

Lei Han | MA, United States

Civilization is doomed. Old glories in these mill towns are collapsing. Man yields to a new moral and commercial imperative that manipulates and sets his desires. Buildings, chimneys, textile machines have turned into urban fragments and ruins. Through these images, I would like to invite my audience on a journey of emptiness to explore the sensation of abandonment. Intentionally, I removed the human dimension from the scene, but the struggle and impulse of humans can be seen from each and every image. Through the shape, color, and texture of those old mill buildings and industrial ruins, I want to create a meticulous and nostalgic collection of this loss of substance, recording a eulogy for American industrial revolution.
