TASO drama group before performance at International Women Day celebrations. The drama group uses songs to educate communities about HIV/AIDS. All participants are HIV positive.
It is estimated approximately 940.000 people live with HIV/AIDS in Uganda. Hard work of many NGO's and Government led to dramatic reduction in HIV prevalence. One of the organisations focusing on diagnosis, medical treatment, education and prevention is TASO (The Aids Support Organisation). It was founded originally as informal support group among 15 friends effected by HIV/AIDS. Today TASO is the largest indigenous NGO providing HIV/AIDS services in Uganda and Africa, having supported over 200,000 directly since its inception. TASO has given over 23,000 clients ARVs including 1000 children since we rolled out Antiretroviral Therapy in June 2004. The organisation provides patients and their families with counselling and support needed to deal with many social issue associated with HIV/AIDS.
