A brief glimpse of the hidden alleyways of the Samphanthawong district in Bangkok. The Samphanthawong district is one of the oldest areas in the city , and home to a vibrant Chinese community. What makes the district quite unique are the maze of alleyways that spread out like a dragon's body.
The alleys are a remarkable place to get lost, and step back in time. They meander about, and contain old Chinese homes , some hundreds of years old. In fact its still possible to stumble upon small tea shops where eldery men play chess, and Manderin is the main languge spoken instead of Thai. Furthermore there is a real sense of tranquilty as one enter's the heart of Chinatown. This tranqulity in a metroplolis like Bangkok is quite rare.
In a way it's an otherworldly sensation , the sound of the main street is drowned out and replaced by the sound of birds. The maze of alleyways really help preserve Chinese culture in the heart of Bangkok.
