A survivor of abuse holds kisses her child.
Ayoba is slang term used by South African’s to express amazement. This collection of images highlights the community of Langa, one filled with a sense of energy and life on the street that I was continually amazed by.
In a country that has consistently been presented in the media as lumbered by poverty, HIV/AIDS, and crime, how often do you see the quieter moments of everyday life and humanity? Langa is phonetic and very alive and Ayoba reflects my feelings towards change within the community in a visual way.

Michael has captured moments on the street for over 6 years, documenting his surroundings and the communities he lives in. In addition to making pictures, Michael has worked professionally with an array of mission driven non-profits and organizations dedicated to social change. He currently works for the World Bank Group and is based in Washignton, D.C.
