Photographs from the Fulton Street Fish Market in Manhattan. This market operated for 183 years at this location near the Brooklyn Bridge. In 2005 it moved to Hunt's Point in the Bronx. The site is now a trendy shopping center.
During the day all you could see here were closed garage fronts, but between Midnight and 8am, the place was an extremely fast moving market, with buyers, fish mongers and speeding forklift trucks everywhere. The difference between day and night at this place was dramatic.
