Kids at Work, was photographed over a period of 30 Years, from 1975 to 2005. I have realized that there is a constant running theme through out my photographs, of kids in a working environment. I grew up on a farm, in the California Central Valley and it was common that kids had no choice other than to work daily on their family farms, It was standard operating procedure.
The kids I grew up with were very mature at a young age and when I would see kids working in the same type of environments during my travels, I could not help to notice how similar they were. Many of the childeren photographed, seem to be comfortable in those environments with their families. Being from the west we are so jaded to think that they should be in schools... This simply is not possible in developing countries. I admire thier contentment and thier complete sense of responsibility when contributing to their families sustainability.
