Esa engages in a conversation about Wahhabism with local Muslims outside the Islamic Cultural Association in South Bank, near Middlesbrough.
This is an ongoing project about British converts to Islam (known in the community as 'reverts'). Islam, illegal in the United Kingdom (U.K.) until 1812, is now the country's largest non-Christian faith.
In the past 10 years some 100,000 British people have converted to Islam.
By developing an understanding of this Islamic subculture we can begin to deal with public misconceptions of the faith.
Esa (formerly Alexander) Henderson, a student of medical science, converted to Islam in early 2010 and has since had to deal with conflict both at home and people in his local Muslim community. Neither threats of eviction from his family nor negative rumours about his motives from within his local Muslim community have reduced the strength of his faith.
"I'm very uplifted when I speak about Islam, very uplifted. When you become Muslim you join the biggest community of earth. You've just made 1.7 billion brothers and sisters and become part of a huge family."
