Title:
Kosovo Revisited
Location:
Peja, Gjakova, and Prizren, Kosovo
Along the riverfront in Prizren, Kosovo 1971.
In 2005, Steve Horn released Pictures Without Borders: Bosnia Revisited (Dewi Lewis Publishing), a book of photographs and essays that chronicles two trips to Bosnia more than 30 years apart. Horn retraced his original route and located people he had photographed as children, now with families of their own.
In June 2008, Horn returned to the Balkans, following his route from 37 years earlier through Kosovo. Remarkably, he once again located people from that first trip. In each case, the outbreak of war in 1999 in Kosovo had forced them to flee with their families. Most have struggled to begin life again in the midst of hardship, in a young country that seeks its place in the international community.
Using interviews and correspondence, along with photographs from his Kosovo trips in 1971 and 2008, Steve Horn plans to share peoples’ stories through exhibits in the United States and Kosovo.
