"If my mother was the most important person to me, if I am who and how I am largely due to who and how she was, what then does that say about my impact on (my children)."
-Diane Keaton, "Then Again"
I began taking portraits of my family to explore the deeper dynamics of lifestyle and class within the construct of close-knit relationships. I was interested in understanding family resemblance: who has whose wrinkles and where did those eyes come from? However, surface characteristics did not seem as important when I started to question who I am as a person within this unit. Creating these photographs has forced me to question judgement and balance love with honesty.
Note: This portfolio doesn't seem to have a beginning or an end. As time moves on and I continue to photograph my family, themes change and ideas develop.
