The largest Slaughterhouse in Ethiopia

In my photo project I intended to capture images, which show the men and their daily work at the slaughterhouse: day in and day out they are confronted with the killing and butchering of animals in order to earn their livelihood. What does it mean for the men who work there? What is their life at that place? In the largest slaughter place of Addis Ababa I produced photographic works in a documentary-artistic style in this regard.

This male-dominated world of slaughtering is sometimes rough, but the workers also show aspects of sensitivity in the treatment of animals if those ones panic suddenly. And despite the harsh everyday life in the slaughterhouse, the men are still very open-hearted and sensible. I was fascinated by that contrast and I represented the procedure in relation to the inherent aspects of determination, directness, respect and sensibility in the morbid act of killing animals.

It could be inspiring for further consideration of slaughtering and meat consumption.
