A massive tsunami attacked northeast Japan after the most powerful earthquake in centuries at 2:46 pm on March 11, 2011. The tsunami destroyed many cities in the northeast coast of Japan. Cars, ships, buildings, houses and people were swept away. The official number of death and missing victims is more than 27,000 as of March 29 and more than 16,000 missing people have not yet been found. In addition, more than 175,000 people have been displaced to shelters by the earthquake and tsunami.
Yusuke Harada was born in Miyagi, Japan, in 1979. After studying digital imaging technique in professional school for two years, he moved to Tokyo. In 2003, he covered the Gaza strip, Palestine and started his career as a freelance photographer. After 2003, he covered Iraq, Sudan, Angola, Thailand, Pakistan, Philippines, Bangladesh and more. He has received outstanding awards, and also a writer, contributing to Japanese media.
