I am one of the lucky few who have visited the Omo River Valley in Southern Ethiopia. My journey allowed me to have a cultural immersion into the remote world of these tribal people. I feel I have been able to connect with them and touch their souls in my photographs, which I want to share with you. All I ask from you when you view my images is an emotional reaction. a curiosity, respect This part of the world is said to be’ the last frontier.’ I found these people beautiful, mesmerizing, magical, strong, rich in culture. with similar values to ours – love of family, love of land, love of traditions.
My choice of using color in my photos is my way of expressing the vibrancy and diversity of the human culture. Travel is one of the best ways to experience another reality. Tourism is slowly opening up in the Omo River Valley. Roads are improving. Tribes are becoming entrepreneurial by charging tourists for photographs. The Gibe11 hydroelectric dam is under construction and once completed will be the largest hydropower plant in Africa.
They are a fragile, rich culture crucial to the study of art and anthropology. They are different and yet in many ways very much the same as us.
