Biography
Eman Helal ( Egypt , 1985 ) is a news and documentary photographer .
Eman began her work as a writer in art after graduated from faculty of Mass Communication – Cairo University - Journalism Section, 2006.
She was interested in photography and wants to be photographer, but the director of photography on the newspaper told her there is no female photographers in Egypt.
After a year she discovered he lying, there are female news photographers but only 5.
Eman decided to be a newsphotographer but there is no Egyptian college teachesphotography, so she leaves to work in another newspaper but as a photographer to learn.
Eman used to meet senior Egyptian photographers to take advantage of their experience as she used to showingher images to them to know their opinion.
Since 2008,she entered the field of photojournalism, during these she worked in 3 local Egyptian newspapers also works as a freelance photographer with The Associated Press.
She traveled outside Egypt in 2011 to cover the referendum secession north and south Sudan. It’s a good opportunity to cover international event and learned a lot things and to know foreign photographers and see their work.

Since 2010, Eman became interested to make features about human rights. Some of them published in Associated Press and Egyptian daily newspaper AL shorouk .
(Feature about special needs candidate share in parliament elections in Egypt after the 25th JanuaryRevolution. The special needs in Egyptsuffered from neglect and not opportunities to work or participate in political life, but after the revolution they hope their situation will change. )

(Feature about share women in politics. In Egypt that is hard because men control the political community and refuse to leave a space for women but they fight to have a role.)
Eman Participated in features workshop for 3 days with Michael Robinson Chavez from the Los Angeles Times in 2010.
She received a scholarship to share in “visual storytelling in an open society” workshop with Nina Berman from Noor Imagesagency, the workshop continued 6 months March – October 2012.

Eman got a good experience from covering the Egyptian Revolution,for 18 months there are a lot clashes and huge demonstrations.

Eman Participated in several exhibitions, including Press Syndicate annual exhibition years 2008, 2009, 2010, exhibition The peopleis a Red line in 2011 about the Egyptian Revolution,exhibition Cairo. Open City.New Testimonies from an Ongoing Revolution in the Museum of Photography in Braunschweig, Germany in 2012.
Eman Received 3 awards in photography from main competition to photojournalist in journalist syndicateyears 2008, 2009 encouragement prize , 2010 third place in the photo story.
