SDN now offering reviews of members' work by SDN Founder

SDN is launching a new educational program to help photographers progress in their careers as documentary photographers. Glenn Ruga, SDN Founder and Director, is now offering portfolio reviews of members' work.

Ruga is an avid reviewer of documentary and fine art photography and has conducted portfolio reviews for Review Santa Fe, PDN PhotoPlus Expo, New England Portfolio Reviews, ASMP, and the Palm Springs Photo Festival. He has curated numerous exhibitions for SDN, as well as exhibitions for the Photographic Resource Center and the New York Photo Festival, and is now consulting curator with 555 Gallery, a new photography gallery opening in Boston. He has taught a documentary master class in Boston and is the former publisher of Loupe magazine.

SDN is offering three levels of reviews and mentoring with Ruga:

  1. Written review. Ruga will look critically at your exhibit on SDN and provide a written review by email. $35
  2. Industry standard 25-minute portfolio review via Skpe. Ruga will first carefully look at your exhibit on SDN, then you and he will connect via Skype to discuss the work in greater detail, with the opportunity for back and forth discussion. $75
  3. Mentoring. Beginning with an industry standard review, Ruga will work with a photographer over the course of a three months, preferably on a project the photographer is working on. Total contact time via Skype, email, and in-person (if possible): 4 hour package. $400. 8 hour package: $700

In order to qualify for a review, you must have at least one live exhibit on the SDN website.

Ruga will address the issues that an individual photographer needs help with. This can be the choice of subject; access; personal vision; conceptual development; consistency of vision and technique; technical issues in shooting and image processing; advocacy; networking with NGOs, editing and sequencing; publishing, exhibitions, and assignments.
