Class Description
This class will provide photographers with an overview of some of the key practical and legal issues surrounding copyright in the 21st Century. It will sensitize students to some of the issues they will face in their efforts to sell, distribute, protect, use or defend their creative works and products. The course will cover aspects of copyright that photographers must know, including copyright registration, and it will review “work for hire” agreements and issues specific to posting work online. Students will engage with the issues mainly through lectures, with supplemental readings and discussion, and are encouraged to bring real-life problems into the class.

Michelle Bogre
Michelle Bogre is a copyright lawyer, documentary photographer and author of four books, including her most recent, The Routledge Companion to Copyright and Creativity in the 21st Century. She currently holds the title of Professor Emerita from Parsons School of Design, after a 25-year career teaching almost every type of photography class and a class about which she is most passionate, developed to make copyright law accessible to photographers and designers. She regularly lectures, both nationally and internationally, about copyright and photography.
