SDN was launched in 2008 as a web-based platform for a global network of documentary photographers to come together and share their work with an international community of viewers on a web portal — www.socialdocumentary.net. Since then, we have featured more than 2,000 online exhibits by more than 2,000 photographers from all corners of the globe. SDN is not only for photographers. SDN is also for editors, curators, students, journalists and others who look to SDN for great photography. We have grown beyond the boundaries of the computer screen and are now engaged in exhibitions, educational programs, calls for entry, and more. In 2015, SDN began publishing the print magazine, ZEKE: The Magazine of Global Documentary.
We believe strongly in the power of visual storytelling to help us understand and appreciate the complexities, nuances, wonders, and contradictions that abound in the world today. We believe in the importance of both the storyteller and their work in contributing to the global conversation about the global human tradition.
For the past 10 years, we have been a global community committed to telling truth.
Celebrate with us!
The Leica Gallery Boston is proud to host the kick-off event for SDN’s 10th anniversary celebration by presenting an artist talk and reception with award-winning documentary photographer and avid Leica user Ed Kashi. Co-hosted by Digital Silver Imaging.

721 Broadway, New York, NY
Dean's Conference Room, 12th floor

This event is co-sponsored with the NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Department of Photography and Imaging.
How do photographers authentically and confidently approach image-making when the photographer, audience, and subjects can be from diverse racial, class, and gender origins? How do photographers present their subjects in a way that ensures dignity, empowerment and inclusion? How do documentary photographers stay focused on issues that raise awareness of the social and political environment and get involved to influence the outcomes of these situations?
A reception and book signing will follow panel.
