What Do We Tell The Children; The Orlando Massacre

Cindy Murray | Florida, United States

What do We Tell the Children? Young boy contemplates Orlando Memorial for the 49 people shot to death at Pulse Nightclub.

What do we tell the children and what do we keep telling ourselves?

Orlando prides itself on being a rich and diverse community with lovely intersections and interconnectedness between people. We host and serve millions of visitors from around the world each year and we do so by working alongside people from various backgrounds, ages, ethnicities, religions, purple, polka-dotted, and pink. It is not unusual for a 20 something year old to be a snowbird's "boss," as was probably the case with regard to some of the 49 young people gunned down in a popular Orlando nightclub. Orlando often struggles with its non-theme park identity and in recent years, it was coming into its own as a wonderful place receptive to all, a fun and safe city; not too small and not too large. An outsider has ripped that all away in an instant.
