This project began with the ambition of documenting the Dominican Republic and the vibrant and resilient culture of my people. However, the narrative that unfolded through conversation was of issues economically and morally plaguing the island. Beyond the beauty in the eyes of the people, the lens is sharpest on pollution and the discordance between people on the west and the east of the dividing border.
The guarantee of the human condition is that by nature and regardless of geographical variables, we all love, and we all experience tragedy. As a storyteller, I’m interested in exploring the web of cultures around the world and documenting those intimate moments among people that remind us of how interconnected we truly are.
