Jungle on my mind

Miguel Jeronimo | Phnom Penh, Cambodia

A photography series focused on environmental awareness and the empowerment work the local NGO Wildlife Alliance is implementing in Koh Kong province, Cambodia, a region suffering from deforestation due to illegal logging and endangerment of many of its endemic species due to poaching.

JUNGLE ON MY MIND consists in a series of conceptual portraits of former poachers, now trained and employed by Wildlife Alliance to work as forest rangers. They are photographed holding pieces of broken mirrors in front of their faces with the reflection being the forest – as a symbol for their new care for nature, as if they keep the jungle on their minds. The photos are supported by close-ups of nature as a way to pay homage to the delicate existence of our environment, some quotes from the rangers to share the stories of these new environmental activists, and documentary-style photos of their daily life in the forest.
