London Shutdown

Shadwell, London. 19th March 2020. Schools around the United Kingdom have been closed due to the COVID19 global pandemic. These students had been signed off the day this photo was taken. GSCE and A-Level exams have been cancelled and students will receive a calculated/predicted grade based on various evidence. Everyone's future is unclear as London and the rest of the planet creeps into a temporary shutdown.

Sussex's series 'London Shutdown' is a personal record of Britain's capital city during the government initiated Coronavirus lockdown, commencing on 23.04.2020.

This diaristic series records the capital cities' response to The COVID19 pandemic, subsequent social distancing advice and efforts to stop the spread of the virus.

This project considers the effects of the new distancing measures on his personal practice as a documentary storyteller whilst revealing the resilience and positive core values of the subjects photographed.

Sussex attempts to convey the solidarity of his community and their gratitude to the various workforces placing themselves in the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic to benefit the wider population.

This document offers insight on a micro-scale concerning collective human behavior and at a time when global society is changing and adapting as a result of one of the most devastating social, political and economic catastrophes in modern history.

Sussex's project is an ongoing work that records London's response to a constantly changing global health concern its aftermath.
