During the first few months of Covid-19, the number of patients needed treatment was so elevated that the hospitals in New York City did not have enough beds to care for these many patients in need. The City responded to this challenging difficulty by setting an outdoor hospital in Central Park.

Covid-19 : The New-Normal

Covid-19, the pandemic, a virus that has no voice and not conscious of itself, has taken command over our everyday lives. Through this virus, we were challenged by the notion of Survival of the fittest. Nonetheless, we managed to confront this invisible entity with might, while at the same time make light of its impact. This collection of photographs, a sample out of a larger documentary, presents images on how we navigate our everyday lives to survive the ordeal of the pandemic. in this documentary, Covid-19: The New-Normal, the attempt, through images, is to demonstrate our resiliency by the approaches we took in finding a way out from the difficulties confronted by this global health crisis – Covid-19. The series of images depict the isolation from public places, the practice of wearing mask, the approach to social distancing. Thus, the various images reveal aspects of our life that lead to adaptation in reclaiming a balance life that we termed the New-Normal.

This new identity is here to stay; this documentary is to serve as a reminder of how we survived.

Albert Dépas is a Haitian-American visual artist, poet and educator. Through the creative process, Dépas explores the notion of self, identity and consciousness. In this search, he considers the individual self as well as the different constructs of identity within our society.

Dépas’ artworks have been exhibited in the United States, Haiti, Canada and Europe; both his art and poetry have been published in several books and journals. He is the creator of Fessings: self-coaching for self-empowerment. He is the author of Metamorphosis of Joy, a collection of poetry published in 1996 by Mega Press. Dépas holds a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Studies from The New School, in New York City; a Master degree in Special Education from City College of New York (CCNY) and a Master’s degree in International Education from New York University (NYU).
