The Greatest Project of My Life
The Greatest Project of My Life is a photographic project that examines fatherhood, attention, and the transformation of photographic practice through intimacy and time. Although photography has shaped my life since I first held a camera in 1992, becoming a father fundamentally altered how—and why—I photograph.
This body of work is built around everyday moments shared with my children, Deniz and Neva. Rather than pursuing extraordinary events, the project focuses on what children notice: a lizard crossing a path, a decaying Halloween pumpkin, brief encounters that reveal alternative ways of seeing. To distance the work from my established documentary language, I chose to use the Hipstamatic app, embracing unpredictability, imperfection, and play as deliberate visual strategies. The project evolved as a slow observational process, encouraging a reassessment of scale, value, and presence. Image selection was carried out collaboratively with my children, reinforcing the project’s shared authorship and its grounding in lived experience.
At its core, this exhibition reflects a shift from photographing public histories to engaging with private time.
