Social Documentary
Paola De Gregorio is an Italian-born photographer based in London. Her photography reflects the world around her, encompassing street photography and long-term documentary projects.
She works with both digital and analogue formats and strongly opposes photo manipulation, believing that a story should be real, not constructed or manipulated to please the audience.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, and her photographs have been published in various magazines worldwide.
Paola’s work explores the connections and disconnections people have with one another and their surroundings. She started her practice on the streets of London, using a candid approach to photography. Brick Lane, where she lived for many years, served as her main observational centre, focusing on the people in the neighbourhood. Her observations of interpersonal dynamics inspired her to get more in-depth with her photography practice, and she started to investigate places from her childhood in Italy and their gradual disappearance.
Currently, Paola is working on long-term research regarding what humanity risks losing in a rapidly uncontrolled growth and the effects and consequences on underrepresented categories.
Through her photography, Paola aims to raise awareness about what we, as a species, stand to lose and challenge societal norms, encouraging people to see and question their surroundings.
