The last of Guajiros

Enrique Garcia | Valle de Viñales, Cuba

In the interior of Cuba, far from the capital and tourist centers, an ancestral way of life linked to livestock and agriculture remains intact: the guajiros. The economic crisis the island is experiencing is endangering these rural communities, who are torn between exodus to other countries or struggling to survive in an environment where the most basic things become a luxury, and the lack of human rights such as housing, healthcare, and social security make the survival of this culture impossible.
