17/01/2024 Castel d’Aiano, Bologna – Alberta, an educator at the Filalana Social Farm, enters the building where the apartment hosting the Winter Workshop is located. The Filalana Social Farm is a project aimed at people with disabilities, with the primary goal of fostering the development of an adult identity, also through work and a connection with their local community. In this context, the people with disabilities attending the Workshop become true “wool artisans.”In the background, the van used for daily transfers from their homes to the workplace. This transport service is an essential element: without it, not everyone would have the opportunity to reach Castel d’Aiano, in the Bolognese mountains, where work and support activities take place five days a week.

Take Five Filalana

Fiorella Baldisserri | Italy

The Filalana Social Farm is an educational project promoted by the SolcoLibertas Cooperative, the Bologna Italy Local Health Authority (USL), and the Union of Municipalities of the Bolognese Apennines. It promotes activities for people with disabilities related to processing alpaca wool from the farm. The farm consists of a herd of about 30 alpacas and a workshop where handcrafted creations (scarves, hats, ponchos etc.) are made, using both the alpacas' wool and high-quality yarns donated. Each piece is entirely handmade and represents the result of a production process where everyone can find fulfillment in their skills. This social farm provides people with disabilities the opportunity to learn new trades in an environment that fosters autonomy, collaboration, and the appreciation of individual abilities. Just like the syncopated rhythm and improvisation of jazz, the idea of threads and dreams blends into  play of rhythms and freedom. Every action and activity is designe to encourage confidence, self-sufficiency, and personal fulfillment. This project aligns with the UNESCO 2026 Convention, which promotes a culture of inclusion and the appreciation of diversity, in harmony with the vision of a fair and supportive society.
