Metropolis Project

Hamilton William Dos Santos | London, United Kingdom

Metropolis, or the mother city, as the Greek used to name it, is that place that, like a mother, seeks to embrace all irrespective of background, social class, creed, race, place of origin and political affiliation.

Perhaps that is because the very source of its creativity, ideas, innovation, singularity, cultural, economic, financial and political dominance is the inherent difference existent between each of its dissimilar citizens. These are the people who make a metropolis unique, powerful, at once a standard-bearer and magnet for many living outside it.

For the visual artist, a Metropolis, as a truly melting-pot, is an inexhaustible source of ideas to take pictures of a wide array of subjects, cultures, buildings, means of transport and landscapes.

This photo book brings to life pictures of four Metropolis I have been to so far: Paris, Sao Paolo, New York and London.

While they offer a personal view of those cities, they are just a starting point, as there are endless opportunities for those immersed on them to take unique pictures, wherever one looks at.
