B-Migrant

Jaír F. Coll | Colombia

The B-Migrant project captures the unique exodus of Venezuelan dancers who, since 2015, have moved beyond basic survival to "emigrate for art." For these breakers, the journey was fueled by a search for the creative recognition and professional growth that had become impossible back home.

Initially performing at traffic lights in cities like Cali, Colombia, many have transitioned from street busking to the global stage. High-profile competitors now participate in events like the Red Bull BC One World Final, while others have founded initiatives like the Risk Boys School to uplift their new communities.

As B-Boy Humble notes, breaking served as a "lifeline," providing not just a career, but a sense of family and stability in foreign lands. By blending the "B-Boy" identity with the migrant experience, the project illustrates how a culture born of resistance in the Bronx now offers Venezuelan artists a path to social inclusion and economic security. Ultimately, B-Migrant proves that for these individuals, dance is the definitive tool for building a new home.
