This reportage explores the world of the Ma Song - the "entranced horses" -devotees who offer their bodies as vessels for the Nine Emperor Gods. Far from a mere spectacle of endurance, this series provides an intimate look at the dehumanization and subsequent apotheosisof the individual.
The narrative follows the Ma Song’s journey from the marking of identity through sacred Sak Yant tattoos to the agonizing ritual of piercing. By documented the surgical precision of the transition and the heavy symbolism of the dragon-embroidered robes, the story highlights the erasure of the self in service of the community’s collective purification.
The climax is found not just in the bloodied portraits of trance, but in the moments of profound human fragility: the exhaustion of a collapsing medium and the haunting silence of an empty chair left in the wake of the gods. "The Vessels" is a study of the limitless boundary of faith, where the physical body is desecrated to reach a state of spiritual grace, leaving behind only the dust and echoes of a vanishing transcendence.
