Walking With Dogs While The Earth Bleeds

Walking With Dogs while the Earth bleeds

Working title

The UK is one of the most deforested countries in the world, loosing 105,000 hectares since 2001 and showing no sign of slowing down – in fact it’s speeding up – and Scotland has 65% of that deforestation, including ancient, irreplaceable woodland. This project explores a monochromatic juxtaposition of light and dark expressed through the ambient negative spatial landscape of a decaying countryside and the stark truth of an unsustainable farming and commercial forestry eco system seen through the lens and the experience of both the dogs and the photographer.

It is a study in the decay and degradation of the landscape but also of the fact that society and humanity decays alongside, using the ruins sitting in the landscape as a metaphor for this process. Every day the photographer and her dogs walk through this depleted Scottish countryside, still beautiful to the unknowing eye, but in reality, a green desert.
