Ctrl+Z is a long-term documentary project exploring the inner worlds of Gen Z as they come of age amid political instability, rapid technological shifts, and profound social change. Many of its subjects are growing up in environments shaped by ongoing conflict and uncertainty, where the reality of violence permeates daily life. In Israel, this trajectory is further intensified by the expectation of mandatory military service at eighteen.
The project reflects on how young people navigate questions of gender, mental health, and identity in a time of war. As digital natives, their emotional and social development unfolds within online spaces, where the boundaries between public and private are increasingly fluid.
Informed in part by the photographer’s perspective as a mother to a gender-queer Gen Z teenager, the work brings both intimacy and urgency to its observations. Through sustained dialogue and close attention, Ctrl+Z traces a generation’s search for self-definition, resilience, and belonging in an unstable, hyper-mediated world.
A short audiovisual piece accompanies the project, featuring the teenagers’ own voices and handwriting.
