Biography

Debra Fisher Goldstein is a photographer and short-form writer based in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN, USA. She partners with non-profits whose mission is to uplift and empower those with less privilege and more challenges, creating photo stories that celebrate the journeys and accomplishments of these remarkable individuals. Her current project, entitled Visual Conversations to Narrow the Divide, highlights those among us whose life choices, on the surface, appear unusual, perhaps disturbing, but whose stories are rooted in common bonds we share. This interactive project invites viewers to be active participants in expanding our pre-conceived beliefs about others. Her work is fueled by her philosophy that the shortest distance between two people is a shared moment. Ongoing, annual projects include documentary coverage of the moments of joy and human experience at state and county fairs (www.BeyondTheStick.com) and the intimate moments of interaction at the Great Pyrenees National Dog Show (www.GreatPyrPhotos.com). Debra endured a deep and sometimes humorous fear of dogs as a child; she has now lived with this giant breed of gentle giants for over 30 years; and with her husband, Harvey, for even longer.
