Kate Salisbury Wool is a photographer/artist who has lived in Asheville, NC (18 years), Athens, GA (5 years), Alaska (30 years), and is currently based in Harvard, MA just outside of Boston. She is a member of @womenphotograph- an evergreen catalogue of independent women photojournalists, the @thejournal_collective- a collective project of hundreds of women photographers worldwide, and is a partner with @falloffreedom- an arts community uniting in defiance of authoritarian forces sweeping the nation, @forfreedoms- a collective of artists, institutions, & organizations across the US activating innovative pathways to civic participation and @wideawakes.
Kate has had work recognized, published, and exhibited locally, nationally, and internationally. All of Kate's work commences with observations in color + tone, composition + sentiment. She has completed many professional and personal projects. One of her many favorite past times is her family. She received her BFA in Photographic Design from the University of Georgia in 1992 in film + the very first Photoshop. After photographing and traveling the world, she continued her education and received a MFA in Art + Photography from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks in 2001. Teaching, researching, studying, and talking about all things photography is her life long passion. Kate has shared that passion with students at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where she taught in the journalism and art departments for over 17 years. Kate currently works as a creative consultant and in creative digital services, and free-lances for all things photography. Kate will be teaching art + design as an interdisciplinary teacher at the Masters Academy International in Stow, MA starting in the fall, 2026.
