The Art of Documentary

Exhibition at New York Photo Festival (May 16-20, 2012)

SocialDocumentary.net congratulates the winners of its documentary photography contest, The Art of Documentary. The winner is Spanish photographer Miguel Candela for his exhibit on Bangladesh's Brothels.

Honorable mentions were awarded to: Brian Driscoll of New York City, Leslie Ashleimer of Santa Fe, NM; Laura El-Tantawy of Cairo and London; Diego Ibarra Sánchez of Spain, now living in Pakistan; Enrico Fabian of India, and Angelo Merrendino of New York City.

All of the work was exhibited at powerHouse Arena in Brooklyn, NY, as part of the NY Photo Festival from May 16-20, 2012.

"These seven exhibits courageously portray some of the most difficult aspects of the human condition: war, cancer, suicide, drug abuse, and poverty. Yet, this work gives us greater insight and compassion into our world and protecting human dignity. All of the selected photographers' work possesses strong visual integrity and quality writing--critical components of documentary and telling a compelling story", said Glenn Ruga, SDN Founder and Director, who served as a judge for the contest. Barbara Ayotte, SDN's Communications Director also served as a judge.

SDN received more than 100 entries.
